Safety Equipment - Rocket Parachute Flare
Rocket Parachute Flare is one of safety equipment that must have onboard the vessel. Under SOLAS requirement, every vessel must have at least 12 unit of this item and normally keep at wheelhouse.
The use of this item is to alert others of a distress situation day or night.

Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS)
ECDIS is a system that is able to display electronic chart information with automatic position updates that has built in redundancy. ECDIS is a complex system for vessel handling assisting the mariner in all aspects of navigation. ECDIS display digital charts information together with ships position and course and requires redundancy. It is the legal equivalent of a paper chart.
The ECDIS makes navigation easy and significantly improves safety at sea. The ECDIS offers precise information about the position of the ship, and includes intuitive route planning functions, ensuring optimal navigation routes, which in turn leads to reduced fuel consumption.
ECDIS will become mandatory onboard vessel when;
- passanger ships of 500 gross register tonnage (GRT) and upwards constructed on or 1 July 2012
- tankers of 3,000 GRT and upwards constructed on or after 1 July 2012
- cargo ships, other than tankers, of 10,000 GRT and upwards constructed on or after 1 July 2013
- cargo ships, other than tankers, of 3,000 GRT and upwards but less than 10,000 GRT constructed on or after 1 july 2014
- passenger ships of 500 GRT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2012, not later than the first survey on or after 1 July 2014
- tankers of 3,000 GRT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2012, not later than the first survey on or after 1 July 2015
- cargo ships, other than tankers, of 50,000 GRT and upwards constructed before 1 July 2013, not later than the first survey on or after 1 July 2016
- cargo ships, other than tankers, of 20,000 GRT and upwards but less than 50,000 GRT constructed before 1 July 2013, not later than the first survey on or after 1 July 2017
- cargo ships, other than tankers, of 10,000 GRT and upwards but less than 20,000 GRT constructed before 1 July 2013, not later than the first survey on or after 1 July 2018

Safety Equipment - Emergency Escape Breathing Device (EEBD)
EEBD is used for escaping an area with hazardous condition such as may be fire, smoke, poisonous gases etc. It's contain breathing oxygen for a time period of at least 10 minutes (most of manufacturers provide time duration of 15 minutes), along with a low pressure audible alarm (whistle type).
This device is ONLY use to escape out from danger and not to use for fire fighting or life saving purpose.

New Regulation : Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS)
BNWAS is a system to monitor wheelhouse activity and detect officer of the watch (OOW) disability which is could lead to marine accidents.
How does it's work?
This system require OOW to press the button on a Timer Reset Panel or to prepare navigational equipment (e.g ECDIS, Radar, autopilot etc.) at certain intervals. If the OOW fails to press the button within pre-set intervals, visual and audible alarms will be generated in the wheelhouse. If the OOW doesn't respond to the alarm,the system transfers the alarm to the Cabin Panel installed in other sections of the vessel in order to inform backup officers of the watch officer's incapacity

Categorize in cargo ship. Container ship normally bring a cargo in box that call container. The container have two normal size which 20 and 40 feet long (normally in commercial shipping they only call/mention about long of the container). Only twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) taken into account that how much the ship can load the container. For example; Ship A can bring 100 TEU that mean can load 100 of 20ft container or 50 of 40ft container.
Container ship has their own categories which is depend on the container can load onboard. There are;
- Ultra Large Container Vessel (14,501 TEU and higher)
- New Panamax (10,001 TEU - 14,500 TEU)
- Post Panamax (5,101 TEU - 10,000 TEU)
- Panamax (3,001 TEU - 5,100 TEU)

Safety Equipment - Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Self Contained Breathing Apparatus is a device worn by rescue workers, firefighters and others to provide breathable air in a hostile environment.
SCBA sets are filled with filtered compressed air, the same air we breathe daily. It has a full-face mask, regulator, air cylinder, cylinder pressure gauge and harness with adjustable shoulder straps and waist belt which is it to be worn on the back, its cylinder usually holds 30 minutes worth of air but this can be less or more, commonly as low as 15 minutes or as high as 60 minutes depend on cylinder size. Air cylinder are made from aluminium, steel or composite construction (usually fiberglass-wrapped aluminium).
Air cylinders must be hydrostatically test every 3 years for composite cylinders and every 5 years for metal cylinders.

Is a self-contained rocket powered line throwing unit designed for ship to ship and ship to shore operations as well as for the rescue of people in distress at sea.
One line throwing apparatus is required to be equipped, which includes not less than 4 projectiles each capable of carrying the line at least 230 meter in calm water.

Safety Equipment - Emergency Position Indicating Rescue Beacon (EPIRB)
EPIRB is a compact battery-powered radio transmitter which is when activated sends out a distress signal via satellite to both identify the position of the user and alert the emergency services to his or her distress.
It automatically transmits the following data via the satellites to the base station: the vehicle's call sign, type of accident, its last position with actual time as well as the direction in which it is moving and velocity.
